Dan Rath

Chortle called you “peerless” when it comes to one-liners. Are you obsessive about joke-writing?

I don’t have the self-esteem to be a storyteller. In the past I tried to talk about my lived experience. I find every experience is lived.

The success of Tropical Depression was huge. Did following that up feel exciting or intimidating?

It’s not intimidating because I’ve given up. Also I’m broke.

After such a major year professionally, what still excites you about bringing a show to Edinburgh?

I don’t get excited unless I drink a couple of red bulls and headbutt a payphone.

What do you hope audiences feel walking out of Help Me Please?

I hope audiences walk out at the end.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

I wake up and drink coffee until my hands are damp. Then I pray.

Dan Rath: Help Me Please is at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from the 7th – 30th August (not 17th). For more information visit: https://www.edfringe.com/tickets/whats-on/dan-rath-help-me-please
